Access: the area can be reached by road, major river and by small airplanes.

Work done: gold is extracted by hydraulic dismount of elluvial and stone line materials. Primary ore was partially mined by open-pit and underground work.

Historical Background: The area encompasses a well known gold producing Tapajos Garimpo. Preliminary exploration work was conducted by Pegasus Gold. This company undertook an exploration program comprising of soil geochem, augering, pit/channel samplings and geological mapping.

Geology and Mineralization: Surubim is underlain by acid volcanics, tuffs, breccias and sub-volcanic granites of Proterozoic age. These rocks are intensely fractured and cut by sheeted quartz-sulfide-gold veins and mineralized stockworks. Main alteration (phyllic) minerals are sericite-quartz-Py (Cpy). Gold anomaly in soils strikes for more than 6000m along a fault contact zone (N40E) between a granite and the acid volcanics. Quartz-sulfide veins may have abnormally high grades. Representative quartz-Py samples collected on a garimpeiro pit yielded 82.9g/t Au.

Work done was not conclusive and a number of possibilities do exist.
